Since King Crimson's first rehearsal in 1969, Robert Fripp has been its distinguishing instrumental voice, a singular blend of distorted complexity and magisterial sustain. That duality is best heard on the most progressive prog-rock album ever made, Crimson's 1973 thorny-metal classic, Larks' Tongues in Aspic. Really? Robert Fripp at 62? It wouldn't be at all unreasonable to have this guy in the top 3!
