Steve Vai on Robert Fripp and King Crimson

It is obvious that alot of the guitar freaks who are crazy about Steve Vai and Joe Satriani know little about RF and could not understand why RF was on the G3 tour.

Check out what Steve Vai says about Robert Fripp and King Crimson.

I'm not sure I understand why Fripp was on those last G3 tours. Well okay I guess all the arguments I (and others) made recently when Indyrod questioned his touring with PT apply here too, and we don't need to rehash those. It's cool that Robert was adventurous enough to do it, and I certainly enjoyed it when I saw him jamming with the other dudes in '97. I just heard some of the circulating soundboard recording of Fripp playing with Satriani and Vai in Santiago, Chile: there's a Fripp solo on "Ice-Nine", "The Murder", and "Rocking in the Free World" and presumabaly he's managing to squeeze in a few sounds elsewhere in those songs between Vai and Satriani's attempt to fill up every space. I actually kinda like "The Murder" and though "Rocking in the Free World" just seemed excessive (with none of Neil Young's crunchy anger) the first time I heard it, I liked it better the second time (and of course as a longtime RF and NY fan, it is cool hearing a Fripp solo on a NY tune). Satriani should release something from these tours. Still, I have to wonder if maybe in part that experience is why there's no KC for awhile; after listening to all that for two tours I wouldn't want to hear another guitar solo for three years either.

Fripp has reported he played Fracture as a duo with Billy Sheehan on the last G3 tour. That makes it all worthwhile.

And I can't wait to hear that!
