Eno, Reflection
The new eMusic site is finally almost starting to make sense (well, it wouldn't be emu if they didn't make things difficult one way or another). On the down side, there are a lot of things from the old site that don't appear anymore/yet/for now. Fortunately it's balanced out by a lot more things on my list that are newly available, most importantly the Warp catalogue. I'm not sure there's a whole lot to say about this one compared to the Captain's other Thinking Music installments, just that it's a different and worthy addition to the series.

Ian Boddy & Markus Reuter, Memento (eMusic)
See above comment. At first glance it doesn't stand out radically from the duo's past catalogue. It's another strong offering with elements of all the things they do so well.

Quercus, Nightfall
This is a most intriguingly unusual trio. The setup is voice, sax (some around here will recognize the name Iain Ballamy) and piano, playing largely folk songs and giving some familiar lyrics a distinct chamber-ish treatment. You can definitely call it jazz, but the mix can't be classified at all.

Shawn Thwaites Rebel Quartet, New Life
It's billed as "modern jazz intertwining hip-hop, funk and calypso." The last element is the most prominent (onakowna the leader is dedicated to steel drums) and the hip-hop only shows up in a brief snatch near the beginning. It looked tempting just because of combining things in interesting ways, and the overall fun factor alone is enough reason to call the affair a success.

Aaron Parks, Find the Way
Sonar, Black Light
Guy Garvey, Courting the Squall
No-Man, Flowermouth / Heaven Taste
KC @ Bremen & Glasgow '72
Devin Townsend, Ki / Ghost
KTU, 8 Armed Monkey
Porky Tree, Signify
Martin Barre, Order of Play
Mike Oldfield, Ommadawn
A String Cheese Incident Live
Blackfield V
Anat Cohen & Marcello Gonçalves, Outra Coisa
There's just three things in my life that I regret
There's everything I've done, everything I'm doing
And what I haven't done yet

Quantum Trio, Duality: Particles & Waves
They're not only Europeans, but nerdy Europeans. The whole release follows the theme of the title: the two discs are subtitled Particles and Waves (natch) and have complementary feels, all-acoustic and somewhat electrified respectively. The pieces are even titled after scientific concepts and sometimes structured to match ("Branes" has a line that keeps mutating one note at a time a-la "Vrooom," for instance). Fascinating stuff that doesn't get inaccessible for all its trickery.

Bill Evans, Another Time: The Hilversum Concert
This is a delight. Maybe part of it is just the fact of an unknown top-quality recording, from a brief and mostly undocumented group (Evans/Gomez/DeJohnette), surfacing when we thought all the good stuff was already out there. Leaving that aside, the performance is still an excellent one purely on its own terms.

Orion Tango, The Apple of No
Somewhat familiar since it was the same WXPN live-in-studio session they released as a free download after its recording in Jan '16. Still, the order is a bit shuffled, it's mastered for a much better sonic punch and it's great to have the hardcopy complete with interesting artwork.

Trail Magic s/t
I like. It's a jazzy fusion duo with a sunny feel and Southern-rock-country blend... sort of Jeff Beck-ish jam-band fusion with a Dixie Dregs streak.

The Nightmare Police, Losing the Light
Pop-punk with a slightly more thoughtful lyrical bent than I usually expect from anything pop-punk. I doubt it'll last in the library, but it's catchy and fun enough to last 15 minutes.

Stephan Micus, Inland Sea
centrozoon, 217 XI (Event Horizon Series, Philadelphia 11.15.16)
GoGo Penguin, V2.0 / Man Made Object
Marillion, Marbles
Anat Cohen & Trio Brasileiro, Rosa Dos Ventos
Nik Bärtsch's Mobile, AER
KC, Heavy ConstruKction
Global Illage, Sushilove Sessions
Aimee Mann, Mental Illness
R.E.M., Accelerate / Collapse Into Now
Boddy & Reuter, Memento / Colour Division
Eno, Reflection / On Land
The PCO, Broadcasting from Home / Music from the Penguin Cafe / Signs of Life
Martin Barre, Order of Play
Jon & Brian, Fourth World v.1: Possible Musics
Habib Koité, FÔLY! Live Around the World

This is an odd one. I like it, but not quite enough to make a lot of room in the schedule among everything else. It's in that weird spot where, if I did have another hour in the day, this would be the first thing I'd play... but as it is, I never quite get there.
