Great choice. I don't generally start thinking of best-of-year lists until much later, but I'm already sure that will be one of my top choices for '17.

It was also interesting to see you mention a new Antimatter. Last I remembered, they'd parted ways years ago (assuming it's the same duo I'm thinking of). I'll have to look into that.

The Barbieri album is subliem and highly looking forward to the gig he gonna do in a church in September.
The Antimatter CD/DVD is a live recording from a gig the did at the Boerderij (http://cultuurpodiumboerderij.nl/en/) in my hometown during there Judas Table tour.

Well now! It is indeed the same outfit. I knew one of the founders had left after album #3 - clearly they've been a lot more active since then. Thanks for the link.

Trombone Shorty, Parking Lot Symphony
Similar to most of its predecessors, this one takes the melting-pot approach with anything from street jazz to R&B, soul and funk. I doubt the layered studio patchwork is really a, umm, patch on the as-is live experience, but it's fun enough.

Ken Swartz and the Palace of Sin, Smile Away the Blues
Without seeing any blurb, it's immediately obvious that this guy's love of the blues is second only to his love of N'awlins. Probably nothing to blow the mind, but it's fun enough for what it is.

The Delta Saints, Monte Vista
It's not up my particular alley as much as the last one. They're focusing mainly on the songs themselves without so much instrumental interplay (on record at least), and drifting from acoustic/exotic elements toward classic rock and psychedelia. Still, it's an impressive effort with an admirable insistence on growing, there are a couple great hooks, and the Bowie tribute song is noteworthy in itself.

Andrew Schiller Quintet, Tied Together, Not to the Ground
EchoTest, Le Fil Rouge / From Two Balconies
Aimee Mann, Mental Illness / The Forgotten Arm / Whatever
Dixie Dregs, What If
Alexi Tuomarila, Kingdom
Daniel Herskedal, The Roc
Verneri Pohjola, Pekka
Olli Hervonen, New Helsinki
Reverend Chris, @etude
The Allman Brothers Band, Eat a Peach
No-Man, Heaven Taste + all the Love-titled stuff
Blackfield V
The Fierce and the Dead, Spooky Action
Just the Dead, Europe '72 / In the Dark / Workingman's Dead

There's everything I've done, everything I'm doing
And what I haven't done yet

The deluge never abates...

Tim Motzer, Unseen Universe
Tim & Bernhard Wöstheinrich, Hypnosis
Want a space-ambient-electronica fix? You could do a lot worse than either of these, and they make a great complement when taken together.

Hanneke Cassel, Trip to Walden Pond
Lush violin-based folk. It gets a bit repetitive and I could do without quite so much praising God in the liners, but it's beautiful, very well-played and quite solid for what it is.

KC, Beat / Discipline (40th)
Nocturne Blue/Dutch Rall, Under Covers - A Work in Progress
Orchestra Baobab, Tribute to Ndouga Dieng
Mike Oldfield, Ommadawn
Orion Tango s/t
Martin Barre, Back to Steel
The Fierce and the Dead, Spooky Action
Aimee Mann, Mental Illness
Trey Gunn, One Thousand Years / The Waters, They Are Rising
Christer Frederiksen, Vit
Glenn Zaleski, Fellowship
The PCO, Signs of Life
Sonar, Black Light

And what I haven't done yet
