Greatest Rock Frontmen

Postby Indyrod on Thu Nov 29, 2007 8:59 pm

These are my own choices, and I know a lot of great frontmen and women are left out, especially Hendrix and Presley, so don't laugh too hard, just give it a shot. These are in no particular order, just as I thought of them.

This was always for me, between Freddie Mercury and Robert Plant. Out of all the concerts I've attended and seeing these two guys perform live, it's almost a tossup. But all in all, I slightly prefer Robert Plant as simply a stunning Frontman that played in a perfect band, and is a little more to my personal liking and music than Freddie with Queen. But there is so little difference in my mind, that if it were not for me listening to non-stop Led Zeppelin lately and enjoying it immensely, that I could have voted for Freddie. So anyway, my vote goes to Plant followed very very closely by Mercury.

No Mr. Creep-to-the-Microphone "with that part of the show successfully completed", how about Zappa, no, how about Lennon, no, well I guess I'd go with Plant also.

Kurt Cobain? Is that some kind of joke? He deserves to be on that list less than Phil Collins. And no Gilmour, no Tate, no Byrne.. for shame. Hell, even Geddy Lee would beat some of those choices.

Anyway. Picking one is impossible, so I'll slip in an underdog vote for Maynard Keenan.

I don't really know how to evaluate "greatest" but off this list I'll vote for Freddy because I like Queen.

A friend of mine once said "after seeing Peter Hammill live, everyone else is fake".

I've only ever seen videos of Mr. Hammill in action, but I'd have to agree 100% with that.

The man is the very definition of conviction, and what greater quality can you have in a frontman?

The rest is all just costumes and posturing.
