Does King Crimson Need Fripp Anymore?

Postby Indyrod on Sat Oct 06, 2007 4:27 am

The question is, does King Crimson need Fripp anymore, I mean, he can't play FraKcture" anymore. Well, hell, who can? Anyway, would the band be better off with a better or more innovative force? You decide??????

My personal vote is "YES". Unless Ian McDonald claims the name, we are stuck with FRIPP, and we can argue whether that is good or not... But without Fripp, there is no King Crimson, imo...

No.
Fripp needs Crimson.
He may not be a leader of the band,
but he is the landlord.
Crimson is a small apartment room where some musicians come and play.

Unless I'm reading that wrong, wouldn't that be a YES?

That's like asking if a man needs his cock and balls any more...

There was a time when RF was replaceable, but that moment has passed. I believe that RF was lining up TG as his successor, but that didn't work out. And when you factor in karaoke bands such as the Schizoid Band into the equation, you realise that the mojo RF brings to the table is the musical juice that keep the Crimson machine running. No juice, no Crimson.

'Nuff said.

Are you sure you wanna go down that road again?

Very astute observation. Ian always said the same and I tend to agree. No Robert, No Crimson.

Just making my point...

I'm saying EXACTLY the same thing as JTMACK. Despite the Schizoid Band being comprised of ex-members of KC, it wasn't KC. Is that a problem? No...I didn't think so.

The only thing I regret about 21SCB is, aprt from Catley's ashes, they've never written anything...

This is a big deception really !
At the beginning, I was so excited by the fact that Ian McDonald could write good songs with the Crimson spirit by playing some of their old songs...

Now, sadly after Ian W.'s death and Jakko's lack of involvment, this is the big end of this story ! (they even didn't have a website now... )

While looking back, it was as the band was a spotlight for bringing to the surface the McDonald&Giles album re-edition, the Giles solo album & IanMcDo's one too...

Even if the live Cd's are really good, alll in all, this group was a missed opportunity !

That's my perception of the "karaoke" band vrooom mentionned !
