Nazareth-HAIR OF THE DOG: LIVE FROM LONDON DVD

Nazareth is one of the legendary acts to emerge from the 1970's progressive and hard rock scenes - a name recognized and loved all around the world. The band were formed in the late 1960's but only began to enjoy success in the mid-1970's, when their 'Razamanaz' album spawned two top ten UK singles 'Broken Down Angel' and 'Bad Bad Boy'. It was 1975' 'Hair Of The Dog' album that broke the band as an international success, selling over a million copies in the US - the single 'Love Hurts' was a US chart top ten hit. The band went on to establish themselves in the vanguard of rock with a series of classic albums throughout the late 70's and early 80's. This DVD captures a full show from the London leg of one of the band's many UK tours from the early 1980's. Nazareth are still actively touring the world and releasing new material - latest album 'The Newz' was released only last year - lapped up by their ever loyal fanbase.

Indukti - Idmen (CD preorder)

Polish band Indukti combine the adventurous spirit of Progressive pioneers King Crimson with the powerful contemporary influence of Radiohead and Tool.

Atmospheric and hard in equal measure, Indukti's dark, twisting and hypnotic sound is propelled by the distinctive violin playing of Ewa Jablonska and the effortlessly solid drumming of Wawrzyniec Dramowicz.

An excellent follow-up to the band's highly rated debut S.U.S.A.R. (featuring Riverside's Mariusz Duda), Idmen is likely to figure on many end of year Post Rock, Metal and Progressive best of lists.

Preorder now - available 27th July

I've recently discovered for myself two bands, "White Hills" and "Acid Mothers Temple". AMT music is pretty easy to find, except for a couple of their albums I really want. "White Hills" is a different story. They don't have any music released on CD, just vinyl and some MP3 downloads. "White Hills" is pretty much a HAWKWIND oriented band, with their own special edge on psychedelia space rock. Their current downloadable album "Heads on Fire" has some killer tracks, but the one I really want but can't find has a track called "Be Yourself" which is unbelievable, and only available on an album called "Sonic Attack (Psychedelic Warlords)" by White Hills and Acid Mothers Temple. It's obviously a tribute album to HAWKWIND. If anybody can find that album for me on CD, I'll certainly make it worth your while.

possible source of CDS, I just located...
http://www.aquariusrecords.org/ (search for White Hills)

Description of White Hills...

With just the right blend of psychedelia and hypnotic grooves, WHITE HILLS weaves in and out of anthemic chants, deep space bleeps and other worldly madness for a mix that proves to be intoxicating. Since the release of the band’s debut CD, listeners have been praising their originality and unique brand of heavy space rock.

White Hills formed out of the need to forge Space Rock into the 21st Century. The band began as a solo project by Dave W. Since then it has turned into a trio, with Ego Sensation on bass and Bob Bellomo on drums.

In the summer of 2005, Julian Cope released a remixed version of the band’s debut on his Fuck Off & Di label, titled THEY’VE GOT BLOOD LIKE WE’VE GOT BLOOD. This limited edition release features an extended version of the track No Game To Play as well as re-sequencing/editing. White Hills was also featured on the limited edition Head Heritage Sampler Due To Lack Of Interest Tomorrow Has Been Canceled. Other artists featured on the release include Julian Cope, Dogntank (Doggen, guitarist with Spiritualized and Julian Cope’s band), Comets On Fire, Temple of Bon Matin, The New Lou Reeds and more.

2006 saw the band’s debut performance in the UK supporting Julian Cope at KOKO in London on February 16th, the second pressing of THEY’VE GOT BLOOD LIKE WE’VE GOT BLOOD, and the second pressing of the band’s version of their debut release titled NO GAME TO PLAY.

Something else that has appeared on my radar, that I really like, and will probably purchase in the near future.

Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era 1965-1968 (Box 4 discs)

Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era is a compilation album of American garage rock singles released in the mid- to late 1960s. It was assembled by Jac Holzman, founder of Elektra Records, and Lenny Kaye, later lead guitarist for the Patti Smith Group. The original double album was released on LP by Elektra in 1972 with liner notes by Kaye that contained one of the first uses of the term "punk rock". It was reissued with a new cover design by Sire Records in 1976 and more recently as an expanded four-CD box set in 1998.

Influence and reissues
Jon Savage, in his history of the UK punk rock scene, England's Dreaming, cites Nuggets as a major influence on punk bands and includes it in his essential punk discography, alongside Iggy and the Stooges' Raw Power.

Many other compilation albums took their cue from Nuggets, including the Pebbles, Rubble - 20 volumes of mainly UK psychedelia released in the 1980s - and Back From the Grave series. Nuggets spawned an entire cottage industry of small record labels dedicated to unearthing and releasing obscure but worthy garage and psychedelic rock music from the 1960s.

In 1998 Rhino brought the original LP to CD, reproducing the original song sequence and liner notes. However, rather than releasing a single-disc release of the original LP, Rhino put the original disc in a box set with three other discs, an extra 91 songs in total that were not on the original LP. Contrary to popular belief, many of the songs were American Top 40 hits: more than a third of the original Nuggets would fall into that category, while Rhino's expanded set featured such smash hits as "Incense and Peppermints" by Strawberry Alarm Clock (#1), "Louie, Louie" by The Kingsmen (#2), "Wooly Bully" by Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs (#2), "Little Bit o' Soul" by The Music Explosion (#2), and "Time Won't Let Me" by The Outsiders (#5).

In 2006 in Europe, Rhino released a remastered version of the original album on a single compact disc in a miniaturized replica of the original gatefold sleeve.

In 2003, the album was ranked number 196 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.[1]
