Pink Floyd's Immersion Box Sets

Postby diderot on Mon Jun 13, 2011 2:48 am

Browsing CDs and DVDs at Amazon I found out several titles of Pink Floyd's new re-releases. I've read something couple of weeks ago and I thought it would take time to materialize, but then I found them at Amazon, although they will be available only on September 27th (yes, it will take some time)...

Besides the Immersion Box Sets for $130 (2011 remastered CD, live CD, DVD-All Audio, DVD-Audio Visual and Bluray, an additional CD with outtakes) there will be the Experience Version for $25 where the 2011 remastered CD gets a live or outtakes CD.

I'd love to get some titles, but at $130/each I'll have to choose well...

Yes, the big three Floyd albums (DSOTM, WYWH and The Wall) are all getting this immersive release. £90 a shot each is a lot of cash to blow. The reissues of the main catalogue seems a bit of a swizz because they only released a big boxset three or four years ago and now they are at it again.

The big boxsets aren't released until Jan 2012, but I am still not sure if I am going to buy these. Maybe they'll drop in price? I don't know.

I have all the Floyd albums on cd, so I don't see the need to rebuy all of them again. I'd rather spend my money on something new.

That being said, it would be cool to have, just to have it. :D

I still have some albums in vinyl, all the CDs, mostly from the Shine On box (the first one, remember?), but the package seems very attractive...

Recently I found at a record store a new (?) DVD+CD pack: PINK FLOYD - BEHIND THE WALL.

More from the same, I thought, but I was curious about the CD. Then I found out that our beloved musicians are playing a tribute to DSotM.

From the store description:
01. Speak To Me / Breathe - Adrian Belew (King Crimson) & Alan White (Yes)
02. On The Run - Larry Fast (Peter Gabriel) & Alan White (Yes)
03. Time - Robbie Krieger (The Doors) & Garry Green (Gentle Giant)
04. The Great Gig In The Sky - Rick Wakeman (Yes) & Steve Howe (Yes)
05. Money - Edgar Winter, Bill Bruford (King Crimson) & Tony Levin (King Crimson)
06. Us And Them - Dweezuk Zappa & John Wetton (King Crimson)
07. Any Colour You Like - Robben Ford, Steve Porcaro (Toto) & Aynsley Dunbar (Frank Zappa)
08. Brain Damage - Geoff Downes (Asia) & Robbie Krieger (The Doors)
09. Eclipse - Peter Banks (Yes), Tony Kaye (Yes) & John Wetton (Asia)

Note that Wetton appears first as a Crimson member, then as Asia...

Does anyone have seen/listened to this?

That stuff has been repackaged a number of times and is available on eMusic.
