If You Had 1 Free Download...

Postby Dog_none on Wed Oct 03, 2007 4:51 am

I signed up for the 25 free download thing at emusic, and I've used up 24 of them.

Any suggestions on what to do with my last one?

Aviv Geffen's original "Cloudy Now" ain't half bad. And I've grabbed a couple nice No-Man tunes from compilations where I didn't want to buy the whole thing.

Then again, you could always go hog-wild and use it for Jeff Kashiwa's smooth-jazz En Vogue cover.

If you narrow it down a bit I'd have some, especially if you like minimalism or World music. There are some great one-track albums on eMusic. What are you in the mood for?

I don't know...something I haven't heard before. What you got for world music?

True dat. I've noticed several from Steve Roach for starters.

Let's see...

http://www.emusic.com/album/Terry-Riley ... 00423.html

The Dervishes is one track: organ in just intonation w/digital delay.

http://www.emusic.com/album/Merdangga-U ... 95676.html
http://www.emusic.com/album/Gentra-Pasu ... 95278.html

Couple of single track gamelan albums I remember liking.

http://www.emusic.com/album/Pauline-Oli ... 91936.html

The title track is a 46-minute gamelan piece by Pauline Oliveros.

Try one of those! Obviously the 30 second clips will give only a small sample, but might help narrow it down.

I second the recommendation for Gentra Pasundan, superb West Javanese Gamelan Degung.

It's actually 8 separate tracks which for some reason have been converted to one album length mp3 here. Despite the dodgy look of it all the quality is fantastic, and it's easy enough to split the tracks post-download if you so desire.
